Caution about Nu Ear hearing aids

My Nuear aids are 3 years old, now the local dealer says they can't be adjusted any more and just wants to sell me new aids! Be aware before you buy Nuear that they are proprietary and can't be adjusted by anyone but a Nuear dealer so you are at their mercy. I paid in the neighborhood of $3,000 for these aids but will certainly never buy again from Nuear! Hearing aids should be usable for more than 3 years. This dealer says that his equipment shows that I should be able to hear but I can't separate all the loud sounds reproduced by my aids into words. This seems like a basic function one should expect from hearing aids.

I've had these for 2 years and am now on my third time having to send them in because they all of a sudden get drastically louder, then go back to normal. So far work has been done under warranty, but that expires next month. Thinking i bought lemons!

NuEar hearing aids constantly stop working.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Got the hearing aids fall 2015. They worked fine for 5 or 6 weeks then started to make "static" sounds, then stopped working.

Returned to DR. office they repaired them, gave them back, same story in another 6 weeks or so. This same thing happened several time, finally in January I insisted that I wanted my money back, or a different set. Was given another set.

These have the same story. Work wonderfully for several weeks, then stop. And yes I clean them and replace wax seals on a regular basis. I'm so disgusted that I haven't worn them for several weeks. I am going to return them and ask for a full refund.

I paid over $6K for something that doesn't work.

I could have written this post. I am having exactly the same problem, and was supposedly given a new pair of hearing aids that also started having constant static. I'm going tomorrow to insist on a new pair and different brand.

got hearing aids, given 60 days to try, signed papers,(found out i bought $6,000. Hearing aid through GE financing(my fault) try for 60 days get money back. bought from David L Benson better hearing aid center in ogden, utah. His father len benson was suppose to help me with the hearing aids. i told him more than tree times they were not working for me, he said we can fix problem. they tried to fix problem i was having, but didn't work. i wanted to turn aids back in and get refund as promised and signed for on purchase BOL. I have this all documented. len kept saying don't worry about time limit on turning them back, he could cover that for me. he cancelled 3 appointments and i finally took them back to office and turned them in. len was there took the hearing aids. said goodbye, and the next two days they were sent back to me with note saying time had run out the day before i turned them in at their office. they could do nothing. i have this all documented, sent letters to better buiness of idaho, idaho bureau of occupation licenses . better hearing put on probation in idaho, i think !!! big deal im stuck with 6000.00 hearing aid that don't work for me. I contacted a lawyer for help, he said it was my word against there word. and that it would cost me more , or that it would not be worth it. Contacted David Benson, he pretty much called me a liar, saying "his dad would never tell me he would cover me on expiration date. anyway i've got some nuear hearing aids for sale if you need any, i have another friend here that has had the same problem with that company. if you would like my documents of forgoing with dates and etc. give me address to mail them. not computor savy to add photos and etc.date of contract 29 august 2012 I know this is a little late to report this incedent, but thought you ought to know anyway.. Just happened on to this on internet, not smart enough to look on internet three years ago to find it.

NuEar Hearing Center is great. Heather took great care of me. My Nuear hearing aids work great and I like them. She is wonderful and really makes me feel comfortable. This year on vacation somebody sat on my hearing aid case and broke one of the hearing aids. It was no problem she provided a loaner for me and had it fixed at no charge in the same week. The customer service is great and her staff is friendly and kind. It is a pleasure to go there for my aftercare. She is simply the best I would recommend her office and these aids to anyone.

Product only 4 years old & repairs done every few weeks

I have had 3 wires & 6 speakers replaced in 4 short yrs. I have been around hearing problems all my life. Other than general repairs done aids usually last 7-10 yrs. My old aid is 15 years old & still works fine. I opted for newer technology & got a hunk of junk. I have to continually take time off work to run to my techs office for repairs which are costly avg $100-200 & I am without the aid for wks waiting for Nuear for fix. They should replace this for free at this point for the aggervation

If you are wearing the receiver in canal (RIC) style of hearing aids, they should be able to replace the receiver (speaker with connecting wire) in the office while you wait.

Good luck on finding a new dealer . . .

I purchased NuEar units ($5,000) and assumed I could get lifetime support from other NuEar dealers. (The majority of the cost of the units is for continued support after all) Not so!

Now that I am moving to a new city, I will have to find a new dealer - closest one is over 60 miles away - and pay for any cleaning or other usual and customary services for the units.

I now have "buyer's remorse" and suggest anyone considering buying a NuEar aide ask about what happens to promises of continued support if you move to a new location and have to work with a different dealer.

I have 10000. invested in these and from day one I continue the feeling that something needs adjusting.

The owner seems to be more interested in getting me out the door and figures I will be eventually move to his next product that improves my hearing. I am needing a new audioaulogist, having lost confidence in these people.

Disappointed in quality of product. Not worth the price that I paid.

I bought my hearing aids in June, 2011 and paid over $7000.00 for them. I have had to send my left one back twice because it was dead and told that the receiver and transmitter were bad, sent it back because the tip popped off, and the battery holder has broken twice because of being so thin. Both hearing aids make a high noise and either turn off or get so soft that you can't hear with them. I have also had to send the right one back once for being dead and the second time to have the tip removed so that I could replace the filters in it myself. Each time that these have been sent back after the two year warranty, it has cost me $250.00. I am very disappointed in them. I wish this company would stand behind their product and either replace them with new ones or give me a different type valued at what I had to pay for these.

Not sure where you bought your aids from, but usually a $250 repair comes with a one year warranty. So it should not be costing you that every time you send them in unless it has been more than a year since you did it the last time.

The company I work for will always try to fix your aid in house for free if possible, especially if you are out of warranty.

I think that a lot of people forget how much use they are getting out of their hearing aids. If it were your car you would service it every 3 months, and that cost way more and runs far fewer hours.

Costly repairs

Nine years ago I got my first set of NU EAR hearing aids ($5,000) , after 5 years I was told that the right one could not be adjusted anymore and I needed new ones. I waited a while then purchased the "state of the art " ($4,000 +).

Last week the tiny little collar holding the wax filter fell off the left hearing aid while I was on vacation- CHEAP GLUE as I see it.

I went to my hearing aid provider and was told that they cannot glue this tiny piece and have to send the unit back to NU EAR.

Since my warranty has expired the cost will be $350 because I am REQUIRED to purchase 1 year warranty when they do any repair. This is COHERSION and EXTORTION as far as I am concerned, I will not pay $350 for a $10 job.

My old hearing aids did not have the filter tip, matter of fact one of them did not even had a small tube extending out (it was broke during a repair job), I was told it was OK then. I plan on checking other brands when I decide it's time for new units.

As a provider of MANY products this is a provider issue, not a manufacturer issue. NuEar has one of the best service agreements in the world.

They extend these agreements to the dispensing office...it is the dispensers responsibility to extend that to the patient. I'm really sorry to hear this was your experience.

Phone Conversation

I purchased two NuEar hearing aids one year ago. I was assured they were the best available. I have sent one aid back two times as it died, and it would keep changing channels, but not by me. I work and answer the phone. I have tried to have these aids adjusted numerous times and I still cannot hear individuals on the telephone. It is about to affect my job position. My boss now literally yells at me instead of calling me on the phone. By the end of the week, I am very nervous answering the telephone. The NuEar are not compatible with telephones.

my problem with nuear was I was told they could help me hear better in right ear .said it would cost 100.00 to make impression, was ok with that .went through 60 days of trying to adjust still sounded like a radio off station could not understand any thing .turned them in .then they told me I owed them 15% of 3000.00 .was never told it was in contract,it was in small print. restocking fee so they say coast me 500.00 and no aids would never go to nu ear again wish no one would

This is NOT NuEar's policy, but the provider. I would suggest you take this to your state's licensing board.

I have trouble with my aids but I am sure that it is the fault of the people that sold me these items a little not I have been in computer electronics and audio electronics for 40 years if the tech have no idea what they are doing then they will never be correct the funny thing is the last time I was there I was told that they could not do more with this set and I need new ones they funny part is they did something right because now this has been the best. They have been since new I think its time Starkey checked out there reps and see who is honest and who is not and maybe teach them how to adjust them correctly

I am not satisfied what so ever

I purchased a hearing aid after talking to the people at nu ear I explained that I only needed the aid to be able to hear people talking during meetings I was told this aid would do what i needed it to do.I was told it would take 3 visits 1 for fitting 1 to receive & to install and adjust & another to maybe adjust again. I have had to make 7 visits so far at 50 miles round trip plus 2hrs each time. The aid has been sent back to the shop 2 times for the same problem. I have not been able to hear any better than I could before I purchased it. It is useless for what I need. I asked if I could get my money back and they say that it has a 2 year warranty so I don't have to worry because they will get it right. How many more trips will I have to make as far as I am concerned I have already made to many. So I am thinking about a small claims court to get a refund. Maybe even a class action lawsuit if I can get enough of people together that has similar experiences So if anyone has had or no where I can get info please post it.

My 91 year old father went to David Everitt at Shea Hearing Center in Memphis in 2015. He paid $8,000 for a NuEar "in the canal" hearing aid.

He went back to the center 3 times to have the device adjusted because of background noise. Being frustrated, he finally gave up and put them on the shelf.

Any suggestions as to how I can get my father's money back?

Anyone spoken to an attorney? Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks Bobby

Imagine VS by NUEAR HEARING AIDS Warranty period

I can't hardly believe that a company would manufacture and sell at prices between $3,000.00 and $4,000.00(ea.) and at the end of their warranty period in stead of adjusting them they want to sell you new ones.(New Technology) My hearing has changed and I asked them to reset the aids to the changes in my hearing and was told that I needed the newer ones and they would discount the new ones if i would purchase them. The Price for two new ones would be about $7,500.00. Sounds like to me a rip off every two years.

I'm currently looking into getting hearing aids, really know nothing. Received special invitation from A plus hearing center to evaluate hearing and check out the brand new NUEAR wireless.

Upon reading these reviews I'm slightly turned off by this brand.

The reviews if reliable are very discouraging for this product.

NuEar is a private labeled brand owned by Starkey Labs. If your current dispenser won't adjust your hearing aids, find another dispenser.

One of the advantages of Digital Hearing Aids is that they can be adjusted for almost any hearing loss and can be adjusted forever.

For additional help, I suggest you contact Starkey Labs at (800)432-**** and I am confident they will either direct you to another dealer, or they will have their local factory representative contact you and adjust your hearing aids for you.

Starkey is very service oriented and will make sure you are happy.

They can't control how their distributors act.

Don't Purchase Nu Ear Hearing Aids

I purchased Nu Ear Hearing Aids with a 2 year warranty and I have had to send them back for repair twice. The same small wire from the earpiece to the works has broken.

I understand the price of the part is $100.00, no telling how much they charge for labor. My warranty is up in two months. After that I'll have to pay for the poor design of these hearing aids. I don't think that is fare.

I understand NU Ear has been purchased by Starkey Co. They are behind the ear, and the model is VOZ17, Nu Ear.

Go to a reputable audiologist. These people are NOT audiologists, they are salesmen.

With coupons that old people love because they think they are saving money.

This is not a case of you get what you pay for. They count on you overpaying and being too old to remedy it

Guest

i have the same problem, however my dealer tells me that NuEar acknowledged a design issue with the wire between the hearing aid and the receiver and when they break, they replace them free. I have learned after wearing these for the last 5 years that you do have handle these hearing aids very gently.

i think now on the average they end up replacing the receiver about once a year.

your dealer should be taking up the issue with NuEar for you as mine did. hope this helps.

Guest

My husband had the same issue with his VOZ17 Nu Ear and was told by the business he purchased them from that each hearing aid would be $450+ to repair and she would have to send them out for repairs, this hearing specialist said she does not do repairs in house
